Why you shouldn’t fear AI stealing your creativity

August 23, 2026

I hear from a lot of creatives who worry that using AI means they’re not really creative. That they’re cheating. But think about it: a painter doesn’t mix their own paints from scratch every time. A writer uses a thesaurus. Tools don’t diminish creativity — they free it.

In my own work, AI helps me get past the terror of the blank page. I’ll feed it a rough idea and get back ten variations I would never have thought of. Some are garbage, but a couple are gems that spark my next great piece.

That’s the key: AI is a collaborator, not a replacement. You still bring the taste, the judgment, and the final polish. The best work comes from a human directing the machine.

So if you’ve been holding back on using AI because it feels like cheating, give it a try with an open mind. You might be surprised at how much more creative you feel when you’re not starting from zero every time.
